Tim Zimmermann

Tim Zimmermann

Activist, Author, and Producer

Tim Zimmermann is an award-winning correspondent with Outside Magazine, author of The Race, and associate producer and co-writer of the 2013 documentary film Blackfish.

Zimmermann's writing focuses on humanity's relationship with the natural word, and he has reported on everything from extreme cave diving to efforts to communicate with dolphins. In 2010 he wrote The Killer In The Pool, a deep investigation into the death of SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau. He followed up in 2011 with Blood In The Water, a report which deconstructed another fatal attack by a SeaWorld orca. Those two stories became the basis for Blackfish.

Prior to writing for Outside, Zimmerman was a Senior Editor and Diplomatic Correspondent at US News and World Report. His work has also appeared in a variety of publications, including Men's Journal and Sports Illustrated.

Zimmermann lives in Washington, DC with his wife and two children, and continues to write about orcas, marine mammals, and the natural world. You can follow his work via TimZimmermann.com, Facebook, and Twitter. He is a graduate of Yale University, and the Department of War Studies at King's College, London.
